hank you for applying to be an advanced reader.
I am honored.
Here’s the deal. Most of this novel is a work in progress. And it’s not finished, so the plot really starts to fall apart in the middle. I’m not looking for copy editing. At least, not yet.
I want help with the big ideas. I want help with the inconsistencies. I want help with the plot holes. I want to know when dialogue is forced or stilted. I want criticism.
But you know what I also really want aside from criticism?
I want to know when things are awesome. I want to know what you like and what you want more of.
Writing a novel is an existential journey. I wake up each day and attempt to corral my demons and angels into print. It’s damned hard work. When I doubt myself, I doubt my novel. So please, try to be constructive.
I love getting feedback, in fact, I’m sort of a feedback junkie, as many of us are. I want instantaneous feedback! Now!!!
Also, this thing is copyrighted like the US government copyrights their overthrow of Latin American governments. Top Secret. Classified. Don’t re-post it. Hush hush. Got it?
When it comes out, if you’ve participated, you’ll be in the acknowledgements. And maybe when it comes out, you can help by buying a copy, posting a link to facebook, tweeting it, and buying several copies for friends. Did I mention buying a copy?
I haven’t figured out a good way to enable microsoft-word style inline comments. I’m syncing the whole thing from Dropbox each night automatically as I edit which means that the content changes and thus inline comments would be lost. So you can use the comments for feedback.
Finally, I don’t want to hear about the following things, I’ll be fixing them later:
- Scene transitions
- Jethro’s accent
- Punctuation errors
- How the plot makes no sense towards the middle of the book. It’s as yet unwritten.
I DO want to hear about the big ideas. Critical, positive, and all that.
You can download a copy at the bottom of all book pages, and you can navigate the book through the dropdown table of contents at the top of all book pages.
Alright, enough crankiness and fear. Without further ado…
